Three straight events. Three titles. FAU isn’t slowing down.

The Owls swept NC State 3-0 in the final to win the NC Super Regional, the latest stop in NC Super Regional college pickleball, at the City of Wilson Pickleball Facility in Wilson, North Carolina, on October 17 and 18. Here’s how the weekend played out, from early-round upsets to a challenger bracket run nobody could stop.

The NC Super Regional by the numbers

This was one of the deepest fields on the College Pickleball Tour fall schedule.

• 330 players
• 29 schools
• 66 MLP teams
• 34 challenger bracket teams

With that many teams in the draw, nobody got an easy path. The Round of 32 proved it fast.

Round of 32 upsets set the tone

Seeding only goes so far once the first ball is served.

No. 23 FSU 3 knocked off No. 10 UCF 2, 3-1, in an all-Florida matchup. Hometown team No. 20 ECU 1 gave the North Carolina crowd something to cheer about, taking down No. 13 CCU 1, 3-1.

Then came the Virginia showdown. No. 11 UVA 1 swept No. 6 Liberty 1, 3-0, and settled the debate over who the best team in Virginia is, at least for this weekend.

NC State takes down the top seed

The biggest result of the semifinals came from the Wolfpack. No. 5 NC State 1 upset No. 1 Alabama 1, 3-1, to punch its ticket to the final.

On the other side of the bracket, FAU ended UVA’s run with a 3-0 sweep. That set up a final between the top program in the state and the hottest team in college pickleball.

FAU wins NC Super Regional college pickleball title

The final wasn’t close. FAU beat NC State 3-0 to take the title.

For NC State, the result felt familiar. At last year’s NC Super Regional, the Wolfpack fell 0-3 to Miami (FL). This year, a different Florida school handed them the same score.

For FAU, it’s another chapter in a run that keeps getting longer. The Owls have now won three events in a row: the Georgia Super Regional, The Nationals, and the NC Super Regional. Every one of those events had at least 40 other teams in the field.

Winning one event against that kind of depth is hard. Winning three straight puts FAU in a category of its own right now.

UNF duo goes perfect in the challenger bracket

The challenger bracket had its own standout. Marco Ortiz and Elijah Akhundjanov from UNF won it Saturday night, going 8-0 against the field.

Eight matches, zero losses. That’s how you make a name for yourself at a Super Regional.

What’s next on the road to Nationals

The fall schedule keeps moving. The Ohio Super Regional is up next, October 24 and 25 at Match Point Pickleball in Columbus, Ohio. After that, teams head to the College World Championship at Brookhaven Country Club in Farmers Branch, Texas, October 30 through November 1.

The big question heading into both: can anyone stop FAU?
