PPA Las Vegas Open 2026: Daescu and Alshon go back to back

Andrei Daescu and Christian Alshon have lost one match together all season. After the PPA Las Vegas Open 2026, they also have two straight gold medals.
Here’s how the men’s doubles title played out, how Kiora Kunimoto turned a strong week into women’s singles silver, and the three upsets that shook up the draw. DUPR data is behind every result.
All ratings and rankings in this post are as of October 5, 2026.
Daescu and Alshon win men’s doubles at the PPA Las Vegas Open 2026
Daescu (No. 5, DUPR 6.876) and Alshon (No. 4, DUPR 6.888) came to Las Vegas as one of the hottest teams on tour. They left with the title.
Their biggest test came against Ben Johns (7.029) and Gabe Tardio (6.824). On paper, Johns and Tardio held the higher average team rating. Daescu and Alshon won anyway, 11-6, 11-8, taking 22 of 36 points.
They followed it with a win over Hayden Patriquin (6.908) and Federico Staksrud (6.713), 11-7, 11-8. Two matches against two of the strongest teams in the field, and they never dropped a game.

Back-to-back gold and a 15-1 season
Las Vegas was their second straight title after winning gold at the PPA Veolia Arizona Open.
Their 2026 numbers as a partnership:
- Record: 15-1
- Average points won: 61.7%
That second number matters as much as the first. DUPR measures performance against expectation, not just wins and losses. Winning more than six of every ten points against pro-level competition is what separates a hot streak from real dominance.
Kiora Kunimoto takes silver in women’s singles
Kiora Kunimoto (No. 9, DUPR 5.789) made her run to the final count. Her key win came over No. 2 Kate Fahey (6.270), a player rated nearly half a point higher.
The match went the distance: 11-8, 2-11, 11-5. Add up the points and it’s 24-24. Dead even. Kunimoto won the games that mattered.
Her 2026 PPA Tour stats show this wasn’t a one-off:
- Record: 32-15 (68%)
- Average points won: 56.6%
- Underdog wins: 7
Seven wins as the lower-rated player this season. Las Vegas just put one of them on a bigger stage.

Top upsets from Las Vegas
Upsets are where ratings move the most. Beat a higher-rated opponent and DUPR rewards you for outperforming the expectation. Three players did exactly that in Vegas.
- Luc Pham (6.003) def. Christopher Haworth (6.734), 4-11, 11-7, 11-8. The biggest rating gap of the week at 0.731. Pham got run off the court in game one and still found a way. Total points finished 26-26.
- Daria Walczak (5.472) def. Judit Castillo (5.819), 11-1, 12-10. An 11-1 opener against a higher-rated opponent is a statement. Walczak then held her nerve to close out game two in extra points.
- Jace Morris (5.606) def. Rafa Hewett (6.106), 8-11, 11-4, 11-3. Half a point of rating separated them. After dropping game one, Morris outscored Hewett 22-7 the rest of the way.
The takeaway from Las Vegas
Daescu and Alshon are the team to beat right now, Kunimoto keeps winning matches she’s not supposed to, and the upset list proves rating gaps don’t decide matches on their own.
