DUPR and PlaySight are strengthening and deepening their partnership to explore how AI-powered video analysis can complement match results and help players better understand their skill level. The collaboration will initially focus on AI Based provisional ratings for new players, with the potential to introduce additional performance data into DUPR’s rating model over time, based on AI analysis of player performance from match video. 

The immediate goal is to give unrated players a more accessible starting point while maintaining DUPR as the central rating system for pickleball.

Through PlaySight’s SmartCourt video technology, players will be able to receive provisional skill-based ratings informed by AI video analysis. This can help new players establish an initial estimate of their level before they have accumulated enough match results to develop a reliable DUPR rating.

“Our goal is to make it easier for players to understand their level and get started on their ratings journey, while continuing to build on a consistent, results-based rating system,” said Tito Machado, CEO at DUPR. “Working with PlaySight gives us an opportunity to add state of the art AI video analysis to provide useful additional context about player performance.”

As the partnership develops, DUPR and PlaySight will also explore a composite AI-enhanced rating model. This could combine skill-level assessments derived from video analysis with match results to provide additional context for DUPR’s existing results-based algorithm.

DUPR will remain the central source for official pickleball ratings, while PlaySight’s AI video technology will provide complementary analysis of player skill and performance. Together, the companies will explore ways to make ratings more accessible for new players and more informative as they progress.
