In New York City, space is limited, schedules are packed, and access to sports isn’t always guaranteed. Yet one organization is proving that pickleball can grow, not just despite those challenges, but because of creative solutions built around schools and the community.

As a DUPR Club, Conquer Pickleball is taking a youth-first approach to growing the sport, introducing pickleball to students as early as elementary school and building a clear pathway that can eventually lead to competitive high school play and beyond.

A Youth-First Vision for Pickleball Growth

Conquer launched in 2022 with a simple goal: to make it easier for people to play sports without long-term commitments. While their adult programming continues to expand across New York City, their youth initiative has quickly become one of the most impactful parts of their mission.

Rather than waiting for private facilities to appear, Conquer partnered directly with schools, transforming gyms, courtyards, rooftops, and multipurpose spaces into pickleball courts.

Introducing Pickleball at the Elementary and Middle School Level

At the foundation of Conquer’s youth strategy is early exposure.

Their school-based programs focus on:

  • Elementary and middle school students
  • Fundamentals like serving, dinking, movement, and rallying
  • Short-format, structured 12-week programs
  • Emphasis on fun, confidence, and accessibility

At these ages, the goal isn’t competition; it’s familiarity. Students learn the pickleball rules, the rhythm of the game, and most importantly, that pickleball is a sport they belong in.

Currently active in 15 schools, Conquer Kids aims to expand to 50 additional schools across NYC in the next 12 months, potentially introducing pickleball to hundreds of thousands of students.

High School Pickleball: The Next Natural Step

As students progress, Conquer is beginning to layer in high school programming, where the focus shifts slightly:

  • More structured play
  • Skill development with purpose
  • Introduction to competitive pathways

High school players tend to be more motivated by progress and performance, making this stage a natural transition point from learning the game to measuring improvement.

This is where DUPR becomes a key part of the ecosystem.

New: DUPR Integration Inside the Conquer App

To support this progression, Conquer has implemented a new integration with DUPR directly within their app.

This integration allows:

  • Games to be logged by organizers
  • Skill levels to be standardized across locations
  • Players, especially older youth and high school athletes, to establish an objective baseline

For a growing youth community, this matters. Without a shared standard, skill levels become subjective, and development becomes harder to track. DUPR provides a neutral, trusted framework that supports fair play and long-term growth.

Conquer’s goal for 2026 reflects this balance:

  • 50% DUPR-rated games for players who want structure and progression
  • 50% social play for accessibility and community-building

This approach ensures youth players can develop at their own pace, while still having a clear pathway when they’re ready for competition.

Paid Coaching Opportunities in Schools

A unique aspect of Conquer youth programs is their commitment to paid coaching roles within schools.

They are actively looking for coaches to work with:

  • Elementary programs
  • Middle school programs
  • High school groups

These positions are not volunteer-based. They’re designed to attract qualified instructors who want to:

  • Teach pickleball fundamentals
  • Work directly with schools
  • Play a role in growing the sport from the ground up

For coaches, it’s a chance to be part of a long-term development model, not just isolated lessons.

One Connected Pickleball Ecosystem

What makes Conquer’s model stand out is how seamlessly everything connects:

  • Youth learn pickleball in school
  • Families engage with the sport together
  • High school players begin tracking development through DUPR to keep their pickleball ratings accurate and up-to-date.
  • Adults play across the city through the same platform

From elementary school students to players in their 80s and 90s, Conquer is building a single, connected pickleball ecosystem, one that grows with the player.

Looking Ahead

By focusing on schools, leveraging technology, and integrating DUPR directly into their platform, Conquer is redefining what pickleball growth looks like in a dense urban environment.

Their youth-first approach ensures that:

  • Pickleball is accessible from an early stage
  • Development is structured but inclusive
  • Competitive pathways exist without excluding beginners

In New York City, the future of pickleball isn’t just happening in clubs or facilities, it’s starting in school gyms, one student at a time.
