DUPR High School Pickleball Rulebook

2025–26 Season

All rules subject to change at the tournament director’s discretion.

2025–26 Structure Summary

Events at Super Regionals: Each collegiate Super Regional will include a High School doubles division, capped at up to 16 HS doubles teams per location.

High School National Championship (April 2026): Doubles-only championship featuring up to 32 HS doubles teams. No qualification required—any eligible HS doubles team may enter.

Doubles-Only Season: Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles, Mixed Doubles. No singles.

Rating System: All matches are recorded to DUPR. Events may use DUPR Verified formats where verified participation makes results carry greater weight in ratings.

Pace & Player Experience: Brackets are capped to reduce wait times. Tournaments are designed so teams play more and wait less.

Eligibility & Divisions

Player Eligibility

Players must be currently taking classes in high school (or local equivalent).

Players competing in the HS division cannot also compete in a college bracket at the same event.

Men’s Doubles

Women’s Doubles

Mixed Doubles

Game Format

Unless otherwise specified on an event page, HS matches use the following standardized format:

Scoring: Rally scoring to 21, win by 2, win on serve at game point (score freezing applies—see below).

Ends: Recommended end change at 11 (tournament director may modify based on court flow).

Timeouts: One (1) timeout per game (60 seconds).

Rally Scoring Positions: Players do not switch receiving/serving sides after winning points.

Player on right serves/receives when team score is even; player on left serves/receives when team score is odd.

Teams may swap player sides during a timeout or end change.

Win-on-Serve Score Freezing (at Game Point)

A team’s score freezes (cannot increase) when BOTH are true:

That team is at game point;

That team is returning.

Once either condition is no longer true, the team can score again. At 20–20, neither team can be frozen again (math!).

Match Format & Scheduling

Events aim to guarantee meaningful play with minimal downtime.

Typical Tournament Flow

Pool/Group Play (Round Robin): One game to 11, win by 2 per opponent.

Advancement: Top teams move to Semifinal and Final rounds (one game to 15, win by 2).

Minimum Play: Formats are designed for at least six (6) DUPR-counted games per team (may vary with field size/courts).

Bracket Caps: HS brackets typically capped at 16 teams to reduce wait time and keep schedule tight.

Tournament directors may adjust formats for fairness and flow (e.g., court availability or weather) while preserving the minimum-games intent.

Unless an event page specifies otherwise, the current USA Pickleball Official Rulebook applies, with the event-specific exceptions above (rally to 21; win by 2; win-on-serve freezing; RR→SF/Final; doubles-only). If a conflict arises, this HS rulebook governs for High School events.
