The California Super Regional brought high-stakes college pickleball to The HUB Silicon Valley in Campbell, California, and it delivered everything you could ask for: dreambreakers, rivalries, breakout programs, and a historic first-time Nationals bid.
With powerhouse programs, rising challengers, and a crowd that brought high energy all weekend long, the West Coast showed exactly why it continues to be one of the deepest regions in college pickleball, with UCLA claiming the California Super Regional title.
UCLA Captures Its First Super Regional Title
In a matchup that felt more like a rivalry game than a tournament final, UCLA defeated hometown rival USC 3–1 to claim its first-ever California Super Regional championship.
However, UCLA’s road to the title was anything but easy. The Bruins had to survive two separate dreambreakers during the playoff rounds:
- Quarterfinals vs LMU
- Semifinals vs Hawaii
Both matches pushed UCLA to the absolute brink, forcing clutch performances from across their lineup. Each time, the Bruins responded under pressure and found a way to advance.
By the time they reached the championship court, UCLA had already proven they could win when it mattered most, and they carried that momentum straight through the final.
The result: a statement win over USC and a program-defining championship moment.

Hawaii Makes History in Their First Event
One of the biggest stories of the entire weekend came from Hawaii. Competing in its first-ever DUPR College Pickleball Tour, the team stunned the field with a deep playoff run and secured a bid to the College National Championship.
Throughout the tournament, Hawaii demonstrated remarkable composure, athleticism, and depth. Its semifinal battle against UCLA pushed the eventual champions to a dreambreaker, highlighting how competitive the team is.
As a result, Hawaii made a strong first impression and proved that it is already a serious contender in the college pickleball landscape, securing a Nationals bid in its first-ever event.

UC Berkeley Claims the Final Nationals Bid
The battle for Nationals extended beyond the championship bracket. In a crucial matchup, UC Berkeley defeated LMU, securing their own bid to the College National Championship and joining UCLA and Hawaii. Berkeley’s performance highlighted the depth of talent across California programs, demonstrating that multiple teams can compete with the best in the region.

UC Irvine and Stanford Bring the Depth
Two programs demonstrated just how committed they are to growing college pickleball. UC Irvine made a strong statement by bringing four teams to their first-ever event, immediately establishing itself as one of the most active and engaged programs in the field. Meanwhile, Stanford continued its impressive consistency, also bringing four teams and marking its third consecutive Super Regional appearance.
Programs showing up in numbers like this are exactly what’s fueling the rapid growth of college pickleball across the country.
