DUPR rating percentiles: see how your rating stacks up

Everyone at open play seems to be “about a 4.0.” The data tells a different story.
These DUPR rating percentiles show where your doubles rating ranks among active players worldwide, from 3.0 to 5.0 and up. You’ll also find the average DUPR rating, why a 4.0 is rarer than it sounds, and what your percentile means for your next match.
The numbers come from a snapshot of DUPR doubles ratings taken on September 22, 2026. It covers every DUPR player worldwide who recorded at least one result in the previous 12 months.
The DUPR rating distribution
The biggest group sits between 3.000 and 3.499. More than half of all active players (53%) are rated somewhere in the 3s.
If you’re a 3-something, you’re not behind. You’re right where most of the sport lives.

What percentile is your DUPR rating?
A percentile tells you what share of players sit below you. Here’s where each benchmark rating lands:
So a 3.5 is ahead of about 60% of rated doubles players. A 4.0 is ahead of about 84%. Each percentile marks the bottom of its rating band, so a 3.8 ranks higher than a 3.5 does.

What is the average DUPR rating?
The median active doubles player falls between 3.000 and 3.499. About 31% of players are below 3.0, and 60% are below 3.5, so the 50th percentile lands inside that band.
If players spread evenly across the band, the median would sit around 3.3. Treat that as an estimate, not an official number.
What we know for certain: a rating in the low-to-mid 3s is the true middle of the pack.
Why a 4.0 is rarer than open play makes it look
Here’s the stat that surprises people most. 84% of active doubles players haven’t reached 4.0. That’s roughly one in six players at 4.0 or higher.
So why does it feel like everyone is a 4.0? Because you mostly play with people near your level. Club ladders, league nights and tournament brackets all group players by rating. If you’re a 4.0, your regular foursome probably is too.
That’s the system doing its job. It just doesn’t reflect the whole field.
Above 4.0, every half point gets harder
Once you pass 4.0, the field thins out quickly:
- 11% of players are rated 4.000 to 4.499
- 4% are rated 4.500 to 4.999
- About 1% are rated 5.0 or higher
Moving from 4.0 to 4.5 takes you from the top 16% to the top 5%. Reaching 5.0 puts you in roughly the top 1%, or about 1 in 100 active players.
The DUPR scale runs from 2.000 to 8.000, and the sport’s top pros live well above 5.0. This snapshot groups everyone at 5.0 and up into one band, so it doesn’t break down how many players sit at 5.5, 6.0 or higher.
What this data covers (and what it doesn’t)
These DUPR rating percentiles describe a specific group of players. Keep these points in mind before you quote them:
- Doubles only. DUPR tracks singles and doubles ratings separately. Singles aren’t included here.
- Active players only. The snapshot only counts players with a result in the past 12 months, so dormant accounts don’t skew it.
- DUPR players, not all players. Many rec players don’t log matches on DUPR. The ones who do likely skew more competitive.
- Rounded figures. Percentages are whole numbers, so percentiles are approximate.
The accurate takeaway is that about 1% of active DUPR-rated doubles players are 5.0 or higher. Not 1% of everyone who has ever picked up a paddle.
How to use your percentile
Your rating comes from real match results, measured against what the algorithm expected. Want to see how that works? Read How your DUPR rating is calculated. Here’s how to put your percentile to work:
- Enter the right bracket. Knowing where you rank helps you pick events that keep matches competitive.
- Find partners near your level. Search players by rating to find a good fit.
- Preview the stakes. Use DUPR Impact to see how a specific score would move your rating.
- Build your match history. Log at least 10 to 15 matches before you fully trust your number.
Find your place on the chart
Most players are in the 3s, a 4.0 is a real achievement, and a 5.0 is rare air. Open the DUPR app, check your doubles rating and see where you land. Not rated yet? Log your first match and let your game set the number.
